Madmind Studio has recently released a new teaser of their upcoming survival horror game Agony. The video has about 13 minutes and show gameplay from an earlier part of the game.

In the video, the main character wakes up in the middle of a dark room without much explanation and slowly start to explore its surroundings, facing some threats, talking to another inhabitants of Hell and interacting with the environment.

Agony’s story will be about escaping from Hell. The player will search for a being called the Red Goddess, the only entity in this dark place that can help him escape. It is not a very original premise, so do not expect very much from the story department. The focus of the game seems to be in the exploration and survival in a highly disturbing version of Hell. The aesthetics of the game are impressive and grotesque, which is great for environmental storytelling in Hell.

There aren’t many informations about the gameplay so far, but the developers highlighted that you’ll be able to possess NPCs (including some smaller demons) during the game, so you can use them as tools to escape and defeat your enemies. Even if a part of the game will surely be about slaying demons and creatures alike, don’t expect a Doom-like gameplay. All the videos so far show that the game will probably play very slowly. It is a survival horror about escaping from Hell, after all.

Will Agony be an awesome exploration of Hell or another edgy game with stunning graphics and no substance? It’s pretty hard to say, as almost everything that was shown about it so far is all about the aesthetics of Hell.

The game will be multiplatform (it will be released in Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC) and it  is scheduled to be released in 2017. It was supposed to be released this month before, but it looks like it got delayed, so expect it in the coming months.
